After Equifax Inc. revealed that sensitive data on tow of every five Americans was exposed in a cyber attack, thousands logged onto a company website to see if they were at risk. Most realized that they were victims of this attack. Equifax offered a free year of credit monitoring known as “ TrustedID Premier”. Some of the fine print may mean that consumers will give up the right to sue over damages related to the massive penetration.
Thursday a multibillion dollar class action lawsuit was filed. All told Equifax could be facing as much as 70 billion in claims.
After much criticism, the company said consumers wouldn’t have to give up their right to pursue class actions later that relate to the breach.
